Robert DeNiro: Why He Wants Anti-Vax Film Shown

UPDATE: De Niro Reverses Position on ‘Vaxxed’

680px-Robert_De_Niro_TFF_2011_ShankboneUpdate: Robert De Niro has reversed his position on screening of the film ‘Vaxxed’, stating:

“My intent in screening this film was to provide an opportunity for conversation around an issue that is deeply personal to me and my family. But after reviewing it over the past few days with the Tribeca Film Festival team and others from the scientific community, we do not believe it contributes to or furthers the discussion I had hoped for.”

We fully understand Mr. De Niro’s desire to ensure that discussions on autism continue in both the public and scientific arena. We are equally pleased that he has decided that a movie produced by a fraud is not the best way to do so.

Original Story:

Robert De Niro, a co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival, released a statement Friday on the film festival’s Facebook page in which he explains why he wants “Vaxxed” to be shown.

“Grace and I have a child with autism and we believe it is critical that all of the issues surrounding the causes of autism be openly discussed and examined. In the 15 years since the Tribeca Film Festival was founded, I have never asked for a film to be screened or gotten involved in the programming. However this is very personal to me and my family and I want there to be a discussion, which is why we will be screening “Vaxxed.” I am not personally endorsing the film, nor am I anti-vaccination; I am only providing the opportunity for a conversation around the issue.”

The only problem here is that there has never been any documented evidence (or even indication) that there is any causal link between vaccinations and autism. This type of media exposure can only lead to the growth of the decidedly unscientific anti-vaxxer trend.

The entire anti-vaxxer ‘movement’ originated with one fraudulent study published in ‘The Lancet’, a British medical journal, and then retracted as evidence of fraud became known.

Further, the film was co-written and directed by the disgraced hoaxster Andrew Wakefield. For details of Wakefield’s fraudulent study, click HERE.
